Closed air vs Open air

I'm starting to beleive that closed air headphones just don't do a good job of setting up the sound stage.  If all of the audio is cupped towards your ear and isnt allowed to flow out and about, can it really be considered as accurate?

I tend to agree with the open air > closed air feeling.  If you get a chance, check out the AKG K1000's...now that's open air...
My current setup: WAV/FLAC -> Meier Audio Corda Opera -> AKG K701
